The Yorkshire Cultural Roadshow Pilot Day

The Yorkshire Ridings Society enjoyed an extremely successful day at the Pilot Yorkshire Cultural Roadshow. The society exists to help to preserve the integrity of the county borders following the, much misunderstood, changes to local government areas in 1974 and since.

During the event, Roger Sewell, Chairman, presented a Yorkshire Day Baby Certificate to Kyle Michael Taylor, of Howden, to mark his birth, on Yorkshire Day this year. Kyle visited the Roadshow with his family, who were presented a Yorkshire Flag to fly on Kyle’s birthdays.

The Roadshow gave members a wonderful opportunity to talk to visitors and other stallholders. Several new members were attracted and a presentation about Yorkshire as it exists today was delivered by Chris and Roger Sewell who are the only people to have waked the 600 miles of the boundary.

Following its success at the very well organised and presented pilot event, the society is looking forward to taking part in future Roadshows around the county.

Dear Mike thank you for yesterday. You put a lot of hard work in for your Roadshow, looking forward to the next one !  Gerald of White House Interiors

Dear Mike,
I was pleased to be invited to participate in the Yorkshire Cultural Roadshow event at Airmyn  ~  the venue was impressive : well lit, spacious and with a high standard of refreshments. The array of exhibitors was varied, interesting and of excellent quality  ~  this was remarked upon by several members of the public. I would be delighted to be involved in any further events  ~  as well as an excellent networking event it was a great opportunity to display and sell my work, it is also enjoyable to meet other artists/craftspeople and share ideas.

Artists and craftspeople are often not the most effective or natural business minded individuals, neglecting selling themselves, preffering to focus their attentions on the pursuit of their passions and creative endeavours. Thus it sometimes takes a passionate maverick to bring these creative minds together. This is exactly what happened recently at the Yorkshire Cultural Roadshow in Airmyn where Mike Bisby and his team organised a dynamic and diverse collection of exhibitors showcasing their high level work.
Myself, Lisa and Jo represented the Artwork made by HMP Everthorpe, giving us the oppurtunity to expose much of the good work to a wider public. As a testement to the power of such inspirational cultural events the show surpassed our expectations with new networking possibilities. Most notably was our meeting there with expert woodcarver Allen Stichler, who has recently visited the prison and is now about to begin a series of workshops with inmates around the theme of reducing reoffending.
I am sure others formed similar positive and synergetic relationships through the innovative vision of Mr Bisby and we look forward to being involved in future projects.

Thanks Mike, Graeme Brooks, team Leader HMP EVERTHOPE
